The Kaufmann’s Karate formula for training youth is simple:
Self-Discipline + Self-Defense = Self-Confidence
Why self-confidence? We believe that confident kids become successful and happy adults, so when we teach them such skills as self-discipline and self-defense, we equip them with tools for life.
Self-discipline
Our self-discipline training philosophy follows three steps:
Step 1: Understand
Through class discussions and stories, our instructors teach young students the meaning and benefit of having self-discipline.
Step 2: Practice
During classes, our instructors help kids face and overcome challenges and train them to take charge and exercise self-discipline.
Step 3: Apply
Once students show self-discipline in the dojo, they begin to use it in other aspects of their lives.
Self-Defense
While teaching self-discipline, we also teach our kids the art of self-defense and its value as an important life skill.
Sadly, as children face numerous social challenges, many do not feel prepared to stand up to bullies or to overcome negative peer pressure. At Kaufmann’s Karate, we utilize a realistic self-defense system that combines karate, kickboxing, and submission grappling so that our students learn to defend themselves in virtually any situation, while standing up or down on the ground. We also teach conflict resolution and explain to them when they should and shouldn’t use their skills. Interestingly, studies suggest that kids who learn self-defense become more assertive and less aggressive. In addition, kids who know how to defend themselves usually don’t have to because they carry themselves in a more confident manner, and confidence alone is a deterrent to bullies.
Lastly, our classes are a safe, fun, and exciting environment where students are allowed to progress at their own pace, without being compared to each other. The competition is “from oneself to oneself”.
